Parents Weekend

At Delta Tau Delta, we traditionally hold two family oriented events a year setup by our Relations Chairman: Dad’s Weekend and Mom’s Weekend.

Our Dad’s weekend usually consists of a golf tournament held at the Mizzou Golf Course A.L. Gustin. Fathers and Sons regardless of whether they play golf or not always have a blast playing in our Dad’s Weekend event. We also try and schedule it on the same weekend as a home football game so the sons can host a tailgate for their fathers as well.

Mom’s weekend starts with a short trip to one of the Wineries near the Columbia area. Mom’s are able to spend a while in the afternoon enjoying the company of their sons while sampling wine. Afterwards the sons take their mothers out to eat at the Heidelburg which is located just off campus. To top the day off, after dinner the mothers have a chance to enjoy a comedy show at the Deja Vu Comedy Club.

Parent Involvement

We are always looking for parents willing to get involved. We are currently in the process of organizing a Parents Organization for Delt parents. If you are interested please contact us, or refer back here later on to find out more information.

Concerns about Fraternity Life

At Delt we realize there are several questions and concerns that parents have when their son is joining a Fraternity. We want you to know when your son chooses our Fraternity over all the others he has made a decision which you as a parent can feel comfortable with. Below we have listed the Delta Tau Delta stance on some of the more pressing issues we’ve found that parents have. If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us at any point.

Our Hazing Policy

Delta Tau Delta is a non-hazing Greek organization at the University of Missouri.  This is a policy of which we will never stray. The following is a list of outlawed practices adopted by Gamma Kappa Chapter here at Mizzou, the Arch Chapter, the Undergraduate Council, and Karnea.

  •       Calisthenics such as sit-ups, pushups, or any other physical abusive exercises.
  •       Total and or partial nudity at any time.
  •
The eating or ingestion of any unwanted substance.

  •       Wearing or carrying of any obscene or physically burdensome or embarrassing article.

  •       Paddle swats, which also includes the trading of swats with actives or among actives.
  •       Pushing, shoving, or any other abusive, physical contact directed to pledges.

  •       Throwing any substance or object on or at a pledge.

  •       Forcing pledges to drink alcoholic beverages by either threats or peer pressure.
–Rat court, kangaroo court, or other individual interrogation.

  •       Line-ups of the pledge class.

  •       Transportation and abandonment of pledges or members.

  •       Putting pledges in an area which is uncomfortable or confining.

  •       Any type of personal servitude performed for actives which is demeaning and/or of personal benefit to the active members.
  •       Wearing feminine apparel of any kind.

  •       Assigning “Pranks” such as stealing, painting objects, harassing other organizations.

  •       Members intentionally messing up or trashing the house or rooms for the pledges to clean up.

  •       Calling or assigning pledges demeaning names.

  •       Verbally intimidation of pledges.

  •       Requiring the pledges to have boxing matches, fights, etc., between themselves for actives’ enjoyment.

Hazing is the antithesis of brotherhood and is a complete misrepresentation of what fraternity life is all about.  As a values based organization, this behavior contradicts our value of integrity and our mission - Committed to Lives of Excellence.

Our Stance on Alcohol

As you may already know, the University of Missouri has established itself a “dry” campus.  As a member of this campus, Gamma Kappa is therefore compliant with the university’s “No Alcohol” restrictions.  However, Delta Tau Delta recognizes the fact that although your son may not be able to drink in the fraternity, he will still be faced with the issue outside of the jurisdiction of the University.  Therefore, rather than avoid the issue, the Fraternity has chosen a more responsible route.  The Delts Talking About Alcohol (DTAA) program is designed to educate our members about the risks associated with alcohol. Our National Fraternity has set in place an online Alcohol Awareness Program required to be taken by each member.
