Community Involvement

Delta Tau Delta as a Fraternity is devoted to the Community in a variety of ways. We participate and are competitive each year in Mizzou events such as GAMMA, Homecoming and Greek Week. Delt is Proud to be a Divison 1 intramural Chapter. We also actively participate in several Community service projects. Our two most notable projects include our annual Philanthropy and our Adopt-A-School Program.

Philanthropy

Traditionally in the fall, Delta Tau Delta makes every effort to stand out in the Greek Community by holding its annual philanthropy. What is a philanthropy, you ask? A philanthropy, at least in MU’s Greek Community, is a chapter’s way of giving back to the community by holding a local community service event and a massive fundraising event for a selected organization involving numerous sororities and/or fraternities.

At Delta Tau Delta we like to make our Philanthropy based around physical competitions. In years past we have hosted events such as Dirty Delta Ball (a mud volleyball tournament) and Delt Bowl (a single-elimination flag football tournament). Regardless of the events, Delt always draws in several sororities to participate in the events benefiting the Bleed Purple Foundation, a cancer research program. Through our efforts and the participation from other organizations Delt is able to raise over $4,000 annually for the Bleed Purple Foundation.

In addition to our philanthropy, the men of Gamma Kappa have also actively participated in other Greek organization’s philanthropies, still in the hopes of improving the community of Columbia and the campus of MU. Here are some of those events just to name a few:

ú  Kappa Delta’s Wingman (Various relay events with chicken wings and hot sauce)

ú  Kappa Kappa Gamma’s Kappa Klassic (Golf Tournament)

ú  Chi Omega’s Omega Match (Indoor Volleyball Tournament)

ú  Alpha Delta Pi’s Kickin’ It With ADPi (Kickball Tournament)

Along with our Community service projects Delta Tau Delta offers many opportunities to have fun on the social level as well.  We work hard and in turn, get to play hard.  From our annual “Delt Recon” camping date party to our “Crescent Cruise” semi-formal at the lake, Delt’s like to have a good time.
Delta Tau Delta also offers the opportunity to meet new people in a variety of ways. From Sorority mixers to Homecoming and Greek Week, Delta Tau Delta offers tremendous social networking potential.

Adopt-A-School

What is the difference between a philanthropy and community service? Many Greek organizations engage in philanthropy events. These usually last a day, sometimes up to a week. They usually involve some fundraising and sometimes involve making a special one-time trip. But do you get to see the impact of the work you’ve done? Do you get to find out how that money was put to use? What did you actually learn from the experience?
When Delta Tau Delta began asking itself these questions, we realized there needed to be a commitment to the people living in our community. We really needed to make sure that this was a better place for us having been a part of the city where we lived. So we looked for a program that would give us several benefits… The program was Adopt-A-School

The goal of Adopt-A-School is to provide for the formation of one-on-one relationships between college students and elementary school children. Shrinking school budgets, poor teacher-student ratios, and a lack of positive role models contribute to the need for a program such as this.

We are proud that the Fraternity has joined an existing program, one in which nearly 150 campuses, Interfraternity Councils, and chapters are already participating. The goal of the program is to be inclusive and collaborate with other groups on campus. Delta Tau Delta is proud to be a part of this collaborative network.

Delt Intramurals

If you possess that competitive edge, Delta Tau Delta also participates competitively in all intramurals.  Delta Tau Delta is a Division I house and we pride ourselves on the fact that we will never fall from that category.  Mizzou Delts field competitive teams in football, softball, basketball, volleyball and soccer. Regardless of why you choose to join, Delta Tau Delta guarantees that you will have a great time at Mizzou.

Social Fraternity

Delta Tau Delta offers many opportunities to have fun on the social level.  We work hard and in turn, get to play hard.  From our annual “Delt Recon” camping date party to our “Crescent Cruise” semi-formal at the lake, Delt’s like to have a good time.
